Civic — Library For

Identity

Social enterprise, Civic, approached us to create a concept for their new initiative Library For, which is aiming to reframe libraries all over Britain to turn them into places for wonder, new chapters and influence.

The identity was built around the phrase Library For and adding different word endings. The logo is completed by adding each library location, for example Library For Peterborough. In addition to the locations, Library For can also be followed by a word or phrase so it can be used to voice different messaging e.g. Library For New Beginnings.

The typography features a neutral sans serif paired with a script font for the word endings. Civic wanted the identity to feel fresh and bold so we paired the type with a bright gradient. The use of rules and lines to divide text referenced library archival systems. As the visual identity will be used by different local authorities and organisations, we created a detailed guideline document that summaries the identity and provided a range of examples for different applications.
